New guests
Even if there is a new one Star Fox Announcement this month or so everyone seems to agree it will be pretty low so we’re almost certainly looking at the right first Nintendo Direct of the year in June. I don’t agree with it, I think it’s pretty stupid, but when has Nintendo ever listened to anyone else, or common sense?

My question is won’t summer-E3 will one be the mega-explosion everyone is hoping for or will it be another minimal effort, showing as little as possible from as few games as possible? I don’t think there is any way to know.

Among the many questions I have is what is going on with Super Smash Bros.? This is probably the most obvious Switch 2 Edition ever and we still haven’t heard anything.

It also seems obvious that they would add some new characters to sweeten the pot, but I can’t think of any new Nintendo characters they could add. This is a pretty bad sign for Nintendo to be honest, but maybe they can add Ditto from Pokemon Pokopia or Diana from pragmatic?

Capcom and Nintendo look pretty comfortable, so why not from Grace or Leon Resident Evil too? Bayonetta is an 18 rated game and it’s already in the game so I didn’t see why not if they don’t have anything.

Combination switch
Knowing how much GC loves ReturnI’m kind of shocked that it’s such a close thing between Pragmata and saros. If Pragmata had a better story, she probably would have passed!

Capcom has knocked it out of the park again and I really hope that Onimusha is a hit and then I think about the combo that will come from this year. What will break that combination I do not know, but I think it will have to do with Monster hunter.

It really annoys me that this is their biggest franchise, since no matter how much I love most of their stuff, I just can’t get into it. But I don’t think it’s time for another one right now, so I hope whatever happens after Onimusha is interesting as well. Another new IP would be amazing.

Horror sequel
I’m not sure why owning a witch cat would break some sort of rule in the Assassin’s Creed universe, given that you’re always seeing the world through the eyes of an eagle or a hawk – what’s the difference?

It’s not like I was dead set on being a cat or anything, but I feel like after Valhalla and Shadows the series needs a change of pace. It can’t just be another big open world game, not with the Black Flag remake out this year as well.

Or maybe I’m wrong and that’s all people want from Assassin’s Creed, but I feel like with a big open world game you don’t get much atmosphere or story, it’s all just sheer shock and awe of the scale. I like the idea of a horror entry, but taking all the supernatural stuff out of it sounds like that’s not going to work right.

Low risk resuscitation
In addition to generally looking forward to a new Star Fox, I’m also very interested to see if Nintendo will actually make a low-budget sequel. They’ve made a lot of indie games before, but I can’t remember ever making a super cheap sequel to a big name franchise.

Of course, the problem nowadays is that Star Fox isn’t a big name, but it was in the Mario movie and was obviously a prominent B-lister once. I don’t know what matters now, but it’s somewhere below Fire Emblem, which I’d say is pretty low compared to where it was.

If they do put something out and it’s low budget, with an option for a second, bigger game later, that could be a great way to try and renew other lapsed franchises like F-Zero and, dare I say it, Metroid.

Comedy threat
It seems to me that Insomanic is building a new game announcement, probably very soon after Wolverine comes out – so maybe in Game Awards in December. That guy the other day was definitely doing something for a Spider-Man game, so something is in the works.

My preference for Spider-Man 3 is that they let things get a little weirder and have him go somewhere other than New York, but I’m prepared for that probably not happening. I’d like to see at least more goofy villains. Where’s Paste Pot Pete, Big Wheel and the Walrus? I always like Spidey when he’s funny with his weaker villains that he doesn’t really want to hurt.
SKILLS

No passion
Looking at Phil Spencer’s legacy, I think the only logical conclusion is that having a passion for video games is not a good idea for the person in charge. The people immediately below them, of course, but not the person at the top. Is the head of Capcom or Nintendo, Activision or EA a massive gamer? No, and not only do I have no idea who those people are, even though I know many of their developers by name.

I don’t know exactly what Phil got up to, but I’m willing to bet there was a lot of micromanaging and suggesting things and different ideas with the developers, as if he was one of the team. Although he never made a game himself or anything like that.

This isn’t meant as an attack on Phil, who seemed like a pretty nice guy, but it’s just to say that if this new boss doesn’t know anything about games and is just talking in voices at the moment, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as long as she’s making the right decisions along the way.

The alternative is that she’s a super die-hard fan who keeps trying to make a sequel to her favorite game (Phil kept pretending he was doing it, but nothing ever happened) and is making decisions based on their imagined knowledge of the game, instead of just listening to the experts and going with what they say.

I’m not saying she won’t end up messing things up (besides everything she still has Matt Booty working with her and he’s always looked terrible), but if she makes decisions based on facts and statistics, then this will probably be better than anything we’ve had lately.
FOCUSING

Status quo
I appreciate it Weekend Reader Feature about a lot of rumors in the news, but I really don’t see what can be done. The number of rumors is so great, all the time, that it cannot be ignored. There’s so much that it’s clear the publishers don’t care and probably see it as free publicity.

I don’t think it’s good publicity, but that example of Activision stopping Call Of Duty leaks with a quick threat of a lawyer is very interesting to me. Everyone could do it, but they just choose not to, and I think we have to assume it’s because they like the situation as it is.

The second surprise
I had completely forgotten they were making one Alien: Isolation 2which is great as I still can’t believe they are so I go make that pleasant surprise twice! I wish they’d explain why they’re doing this, more than 12 years after the first one, but I think maybe it’s because the original became popular with streamers? Although I didn’t think it reached meme status or anything.

You’re right that it was too long, or maybe you could say that the story wasn’t big enough to complement the game as it was designed, but I think they must know that by now because that’s what everyone says.

What I’m curious to know is if there will be more action in this game. If the original was Alien, will this be Alien? There have been many games based on Aliens, but none of them have been great, but if you’re walking around with a pulse rifle all the time, it’s going to be a very different kind of game.

It’s a big question and I’m not really sure which way I’d go, as I could see both options working. I just hope they don’t put any of the Prometheus junk in it, which considering it ended up on Romulus, they probably will.

A good story would be welcome, but my priorities for the sequel are to be scared and not bored because it’s the same old bad androids all the time. I think these are definitely going to be at the top of their to-do list, so keep it up.

I hope they get Sigourney Weaver to do a voice again too, I really appreciated that she didn’t call it last time.
HOUSES

Inbox-ka too
If I worked at Double Fine, I’d polish my resume right now, because there’s no way Oven will be a hit and after Keeper they should be the number one target for any Xbox cuts. Considering there are massive Microsoft layoffs that are expected to be on the way, this could be their last game.

So when there’s a sequel to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, are they going to call it Clair Obscur: Something? Is Clair Obscur the franchise name? Because I’m still not sure how to spell it.

GC: They’ve hinted that’s the idea, yes. Although they could always change their minds.
