In one of the first cases to receive widespread public attention, in early 2024, the University of Waterloo announced two Canada Research Chair positions in computer science. One was restricted to candidates who were “women, transgender, genderqueer, non-binary, or two-spirit.” The other is available only to “racialized” candidates.
