Municipality of All the hillsOnt., has declared a state of emergency as it faces flooding in areas in Haliburton County.
Heavy rain over the past week, along with melting snow, has caused water levels to rise Gold Riverwhich flows through the heart of the city of Minden. The statement was made on Tuesday afternoon.
Many streets in the city center are already flooded. The flood is one regular occurrence during wet springs in the cottage country region. Spring floods in 2013 and 2019 caused significant damage to many homes in Minden.
“Residents in areas that are vulnerable to flooding should take the necessary measures to protect property and continue to monitor development conditions,” the municipality said.

A road in the region is closed due to the landslide. Bobcaygeon Road, located two kilometers north of Minden, has been closed since Monday. A number of roads have limited access for local traffic due to difficult conditions.

More rain is expected over the next 10 days, prompting further concerns of more flooding.
Sandbags are available in the Minden Curling Club parking lot. Residents can also fill their own sandbags.
“Residents are encouraged to think about their neighbors, don’t forget those around you who may struggle with this task,” the municipality said.
Homeowners are also asked to ensure their sump pumps are working properly and all residents are advised to exercise caution near bodies of water.
