DC opt to bowl as Gill returns for GT in the Delhi clash

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel won the toss and decided to bowl against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2026 match on Wednesday, backing his side’s chasing form on a surface expected to favor batting.

Axar said it was a new wicket and believed the second strike would be an advantage, adding that DC had been chasing well in recent matches. He also pointed out that there may be some moisture on the field due to the recent rain. DC have entered unchanged.

GT captain Shubman Gill, who returns to the playing XI after missing the previous game through injury, said his neck is “much better”. He added that it was a good shot to lose as GT would have opted to bat first anyway.

Gill hoped for a “good powerplay” with Sai Sudharsan and said he wanted a shot from the middle order to hit through the innings.

The pitch, described as slightly on the drier side with an even grass cover, is expected to produce a high-scoring contest, with pundits predicting a total of over 250.

Daren Ganga noted the uneven dimensions of the boundary, while Kevin Pietersen noted some patches on the surface, calling it “dry” and a “good set of strikes”.

Delhi Capitals, who have started strongly with two wins from two matches, will be looking to continue their momentum, with their bowling unit in fine form and the limitless batsman Sameer Rizvi impressing. They will also be hoping for a return to form from KL Rahul.

Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, will be aiming to get their campaign back on track and register their first win of the season under Gill.
