Thibaut Courtois was absent Real MadridS ‘ Champions League match against Bayern Munich due to a thigh injury.
The Belgian representative was forced off in the first half long Madrid2-1 victory over Manchester City in the last 16 of the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium last month.
Courtois then missed Madrid’s 3-2 win against Atletico Madrid in La Liga, as well as their 2-1 away defeat Mallorca last Saturday.
Andriy Lunin has replaced Madrid in Courtois’ absence and has been handed his third successive start for the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
After sustaining his injury in the win against City on 17 March, Courtois was ruled out for around six weeks.
A statement from Madrid said: “Following tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of the right quadriceps. His recovery will be monitored.”
Meanwhile, Alvaro Arbeloa insists he has the ‘greatest faith’ in Lunin’s ability to replace Courtois.
“We haven’t set a deadline,” Arbeloa said before Madrid’s win over Atletico when asked about Courtois’ return from injury.
“The two-week break will help us a lot and we’ll see after that. Right now, we’re not setting a deadline.
“There are risks whenever you put a player on the field. There are a lot of things that people don’t know, but few players go on the field 100 percent without any worries. It’s normal in competition.
“Thibaut wanted to continue playing in the first half and I was the one who decided to stop him because of the maximum faith I have in Lun. He is a great goalkeeper and will prove it. Here the best goalkeeper in history is injured and we have another one.”
