Are Filipino fans ready for the all-electric Toyota Hilux?

Only two cabs, with AWD as standard

Renovated Toyota Hilux it will be offered exclusively in a two-cab configuration, with power steering and all-wheel drive fitted across the range.

The configuration underscores Toyota’s intent to position the electric pickup truck as a practical and lifestyle vehicle, rather than a bare-bones fleet model.

Infotainment

Inside, the cabin takes a distinctly modern twist.

A horizontally oriented infotainment screen measuring up to 12.3 inches dominates the dashboard, accompanied by a digital driver display of the same size.

The dual-screen layout gives the Hilux an interior that feels closer to a contemporary SUV than a traditional utility van.

The range question

The appeal begins to fade, however, when attention turns to battery and driving range.

The electric Hilux is equipped with a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a WLTP-estimated range of approx. 149 milesOR approximately 240 kilometers on a full charge.

On paper, this figure seems modest for a vehicle expected to serve both work and long-distance duties.

For context, Rivian R1T offers between 270 AND 420 miles of EPA-rated range depending on battery size – nearly double, or even triple, what the Hilux achieves under European testing standards.

It is also important to note that the WLTP cycle used in Europe is generally less stringent than the US EPA test protocol.

In real-world EPA-equivalent conditions, the Hilux’s advertised effective range may fall below that 130 miles (209 km).

Mixed reactions

For a nameplate long associated with ruggedness, durability and go-anywhere ability, this electric range may be the biggest hurdle Toyota has to overcome in convincing traditional Hilux buyers to make the switch.

When the model made its global debut in Thailand in November 2025, reactions were mixed, largely due to its heavily revised design language.

Traditional Hilux fans were divided over the sharper, more modern styling, which departed from the familiar rugged look of previous generations.
