West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 | Setting CAPF to continue after counting: EC official


Kolkata: About 500 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) will continue to be deployed in West Bengal even after counting the votes on May 4 for law and order duties after voting, an Electoral Commission the official said on Friday.

Another 200 CAPF companies will be retained in the state for the security of electronic voting machines (EVMs), strong rooms and counting centres, the official said.

“Around 500 companies of CAPFs will continue to remain deployed in West Bengal on post-poll law and order duties even after the counting is over, till further orders,” the official said. PTI.

“Apart from 500 companies, 200 more companies will be retained in the state for regularization of security of EVMs, strong rooms and counting centers and will remain posted till the counting is over,” he said.

Each company consists of at least 72 personnel.

The EC had earlier said it could deploy 2,000 to 2,500 companies of CAPFs for each of the two phases of the Assembly elections to ensure free and fair polls.

“Our sole objective is to ensure free and fair elections. About 2,000 to 2,500 companies of the central forces may be required at any stage,” said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal.
