10 books the authors think everyone should read


‘Hopscotch’ by Julio Cortázar

Often, when I ask an author who they’d like to discuss, they ask if anyone has picked up Cortázar yet. Of the Argentine Hopscotch it is not the most widely read book, but among novelists, its influence is great. According to the author, the chapters of the 1963 novel should be read in two different prescribed orders, and then with a third reading, in any order at all. There really is no other book like it, and every author seems to love it.
