Declare drought a national crisis: Karnataka CM G Parameshwara at Centre

Chikkaballapur: Apart from Karnataka, neighboring Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, along with several states in North India, are reeling under drought, noted Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, who said the government had written to the Centre, requesting that the drought be declared a national emergency.

He told reporters here on Wednesday, “Funds are distributed to each state from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) corpus. I appeal to the Center to release these funds early this year. Also, the Center should ease the criteria that regions have to fulfill to be declared drought-hit.”

“We will analyze the situation after August 15 and think about declaring a drought,” he said.
