Sci-fi vs fantasy
Like everything else in gaming, it seems like a very slow crawl towards a new Witcher game. I was hoping New DLC it would be this year, but I guess 2027 will have to do. I would be surprised if The Witcher 4 it will be out before 2029 though, if they don’t even think about showing it until next year.

I shouldn’t complain though as at least you can be sure they’re not in a rush. Cyberpunk 2077 has been such a big hit of late that they can afford to take their time, which I’m glad about. Though personally I could never get on with Cyberpunk. I much prefer fantasy to sci-fi and so I had a hard time comparing the two.

Curious to know what readers other than mine think opinion is that The Witcher 3 is significantly better in terms of story and characters. I just couldn’t keep up with all the awfulness in Cyberpunk. I’ll admit the combat isn’t great in The Witcher 3, but I’m not sure it’s much better in Cyberpunk, even though it’s first person. Perhaps the new DLC of The Witcher 3 will solve the problem for good.

Old rivals
I’ve been playing the Mega Drive version of Sonic 2 for the past couple of days, via my Nintendo Subscribing to Switch Online and being a massive fan of 16-bit gaming, I was naturally comparing it to Super Mario World on the SNES (their UK release dates were only about six months apart).

I can understand why Five Minute Blast might have convinced many image-conscious kids these days to buy a Mega Drive, due to the thrilling speed and loud music of the trendy blue hedgehog games, but it undeniably lacks the depth, longevity and wonderful playability of Super Mario World.

Still, two great games, both of which have aged beautifully.

A world of its own
Counter-strike the leather economy is really crazy; It strikes me that if you don’t play Counter-Strike, you wouldn’t know about it. The total capacity of the leather market is in the billions; there are even dozens of businesses thriving just from people trading leather.

of skinradar.gg The website shows 43 markets that offer players a platform to trade and a good number of them see millions of people visiting every month! What other game has such appeal? Counter-Strike is one such gaming unicorn; it’s literal Pokemon of skin collection in the game.

Wet squid
So I see another big divide between US and UK reviewers Splatoon Raiders. IGN gave it a 9 and The Guardian gave it as low as 2 out of 5. Obviously I haven’t played the game, but it’s pretty hard to see how it could get such a high score if it’s all just stuff we’ve seen before. If these linear levels you describe are really like the one from the main games, I already know they are a waste of time.

Making a single-player Splatoon is a bit weird just as a concept, but doing it with no story and essentially no new ideas seems like such a waste of time. To be honest, Splatoon 3 was already a little bad considering how little it did since it was new. This is very unlike Nintendo and I think the direction of the franchise is troubling considering how original it was when it first came out.

I’m assuming it’ll be at least two or three years before we get Splatoon 4, which means something like a seven-year gap from Splatoon 3, which was itself a minimal effort. I think the idea that Nintendo is playing 4D chess with its release schedules just doesn’t hold up. They just make mistakes by making strange decisions, exactly as it seems.

Put a ring on it
I hate to agree with this The valve developer, but he is right that people are too late to start complaining about digital games now. The vast majority of people made their choice years ago and they certainly weren’t physical copies. I’m still shocked that we collectively allowed second hand high street sales to not be a thing and looking back it was probably the death of the physical right there.

Even if Sony hadn’t made their announcement this year, it was blindingly obvious that the PlayStation 6 would never have a disc drive, so what was everyone going to do then? By that point digital sales would be at least 90%, so would everyone suddenly start whining like they didn’t know which way the wind was blowing?

I’m not saying this is a good thing, I wish physical media was still a thing, but we’ve sleepwalked into this future and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Lost chance
What a lovely surprise to see England’s finest MP look for a Shenmue 4. Even if it’s just a show, Shenmue fans are nothing short of creative in their desire for the series to continue; Just thinking about the Times Square ad a few years ago and for example, the BAFTA was awarded for the most influential game of all time.

Man, I wish Sega would throw Yu Suzuki a bone and let him continue the series; heck I’d happily back a Kickstarter if need be.

The Binface video gave me a big smile, and given the state of the gaming industry at the moment, that’s always a good thing.

GC: It would have helped if Suzuki hadn’t Note 3 such a strange waste of time. It’s one of the biggest missed opportunities in all of gaming.

Strike while the iron is cold
Count Binface might have my vote if they release Shenmue 4, but in other news, there’s a physical release of the upgraded Shenmue 3 available to order at Argos, Amazon and other sites on Switch 2, Xbox and PlayStation 5.

It’s disappointing story-wise, but nice to see it get another release.

GC: We mentioned this in our Count Binface story; Shenmue 3 Enhanced does not have a release date, but is slated for release this fall.

Contradiction
RE: matc7884 and £240 to buy a collection of Assassin’s Creed games on PSN. Using this price tracker I make £120.19 to buy all those games on PSN when they are on sale. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been on sale between £8.24 and £16.49 32 times since January 2023.

You can access all of them with DLC plus many more games on Ubisoft+ Premium for £15 a month. With regular sales, sub-services and sharing of games, free access to games with digital downloads is not a problem.

Don’t get me wrong, concerns about less competition from physical for the PSN store are real. I think competition from other competing platforms and market conditions will keep prices in check, but I understand why others don’t. Will sales and deals dry up?

I also think the loss of resale values ​​should be better compensated for in PSN. Maybe a refund policy like Steam or try before you buy demos for all games.

But now, and historically since digital took over, there’s only been one operator in the market whose games you can’t access anywhere near as cheaply as the others and that’s Nintendo first party games, which are mostly physical.

Nintendo, with the Switch 2, is starting to sell games more cheaply digitally. But that upsets people who think Nintendo is forcing people to switch to digital instead of just passing the savings on to the customer from removing retailers’ cuts. The stores made the decision to match Star Fox’s £41.99 digital price.

Inbox-ka too
We are approaching August now and there is no sign of any more information about Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. I think it’s pretty obvious that this will be a late fall release, but we’ve seen even less than GTA 6. Nintendo can be weird, but they love pre-order money as much as anyone. When will we get a dedicated Direct?

I just realized that Darkest Dungeon is 10 years old, that’s wild. Anyway, they’ve released some new DLC for which I’m going to try and check it out – I love that game.
